I have been working on a video project for a company called GankIt which has me thinking a lot about crowdsourcing.
Crowdsourcing Video overview here.
Have you used a crowdsourcing solution?

To answer your question: crowdsourcing improves results when the crowd actually has expertise. Gaming has a great example of this. cactbot for Final Fantasy XIV has raid timelines and callouts built and refined by players who clear the content every week, and it ends up far more accurate than anything a single developer could write alone.
